Written by Jasmine Morris

MotorSave is a scheme that helps employees pay for car maintenance and repairs more affordably by spreading the cost over time.

  • Run with Halfords Autocentres

  • Paid through salary sacrifice

  • Covers things like MOTs, servicing, repairs, tyres and more

⚙️ How it Works (Step-by-Step)

  1. Apply for the scheme

    • Choose an amount between £50 and £1,000

  2. Salary sacrifice is set up

    • Payments are taken from your gross monthly pay over up to 12 months

  3. Receive your funds

    • You get a Letter of Redemption to use at Halfords Autocentres

  4. Use when needed

    • Use the funds for:

      • MOT

      • Servicing

      • Repairs

      • Tyres, wipers, lights, air con, etc.

  5. Save money

    • Because payments come from gross salary:

      • Basic rate taxpayers save 8% (NI savings)

      • Higher rate taxpayers save 2%

💡 Example

  • Total car costs: £415

  • Basic rate tax saving: £33.20 (8%)

  • Monthly payment over 12 months: £31.82
